
Figueroa and Jagers Set PRs on Day One of Jesse Owens Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Kent State track and field's Gabrielle Figueroa and Reggie Jagers III each set personal-records in the hammer throw Friday, the first day of the Jesse Owens Classic.
Figueroa competed in the women's hammer throw championship division, taking fourth with a mark of 60.48m (198' 5"), extending her career-best mark by nearly a foot. Figueroa continues to hold the third-best mark in Kent State history. In the women's hammer throw open division, Rebecca Leppelmeier finished 10th with a mark of 52.38m (171' 10")
In the men's hammer throw championship division, Jagers threw 64.54m (211' 9") to take fourth-place and extend his career-best by mark by over four feet. Jagers is now tied for 10th in the Kent State record book.
On the track for the women's team, Hannah Fleck and Swann Phelippeau finished 22nd and 23rd in the 1,500m run with times of 4:37.04 and 4:38.47, respectively, followed by Olivia Davis in 28th at 4:39.91. In the 5,000m Madison Spreitzer took eighth with a time of 18:15.89 and Morgan Bing took 11th at 18:44.20. Morgan Arena ran in the 5,000m, taking 19th with a time of 17:40.33, while Caroline Sauers finished 19th in the 3,000m steeplechase at 11:43.74.
On the track for the men's team, Clark Bookman shaved eight seconds off his career-best time in the 3,000m steeplechase to finish in seventh-place.
The Jesse Owens Classic continues Saturday at 10 a.m. with the men's pole vault, with the running events getting underway at noon. The Golden Flashes will also be competing at the War Eagle Invitational which gets underway at 1 p.m.
