
No. 15 Women's Golf Push Lead to 19 at MAC Championship

SILVER LAKE, Ohio – The No. 15 Kent State University women's golf team stretched its lead at the 2017 MAC Women's Golf Championship, hosted by the Golden Flashes at the Silver Lake Country Club.
Kent State remains in first place after round two at 11-over par 587 (289-298). The temperature dropped throughout round two, making for tough conditions at Silver Lake. However, Kent State stretched its lead to 19 strokes over Ohio and Northern Illinois. The Flashes are ahead of the remaining field by 30.
Michaela Finn had the best round of any golfer Saturday at 2-under 70. Her score pushed her into a four-stroke lead in first place at 1-under par 143. After three bogeys early in the day, Finn chipped in an eagle on the seventh hole. She went on to secure three more birdies to secure the lead heading into the final round.
Three strokes back in second place is freshman Pimnipa Panthong at 3-over par 147. Panthong finished round two with a 75. Wad Phaewchimplee is in sole possession of third place at 4-over par 148. Kent State's lone senior carded a 76 Saturday.
Karoline Stormo was fourth among Flashes and fourth overall at 5-over par 149. Stormo birdied the 18th hole to finish Saturday with a 77. Kelly Nielsen rounds out the lineup in a tie for 27th at 14-over par 158. Nielsen repeated her first round score of 79 Saturday. She ranks ahead of every player on two teams in the tournament.
Kent State will compete for its record 19th straight conference championship Sunday in the final round of play. The third round tees off at 8 a.m. Sunday, while the Flashes will begin on hole one at 8:50 a.m. (UPDATE: The final round has been delayed two hours due to frost, Flashes now tee off at 10:50 a.m.)The tournament is free to the public and all fans are encouraged to come out to Silver Lake.
