
Track and Field Set for Trio of Meets

Kent State track and field has a busy week ahead as the Golden Flashes are set to compete in the Drake Relays, Kip Janvrin Open and Ashland Alumni Open.
DRAKE RELAYS
The 108th edition of the Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee is set to begin Wednesday, April 26 and run through Saturday, April 29 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. The Drake Relays is one of the largest outdoor track and field meets, featuring athletes from the high school, collegiate and professional levels. The field in this year's meet is set to include a total of 74 Olympians. For in depth coverage of the meet, download the 2017 Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee app, available for iOS and Android. The meet will be broadcasted on USAF.TV Thursday-Saturday with a subscription to RunnerSpace+PLUS. Action on Saturday will also be broadcasted on NBC Sports Network and NBC Sports Extra Live with a cable subscription.

KIP JARVIN OPEN
While in Iowa for the Drake Relays, a select few of the Golden Flashes will also attend the Kip Jarvin Open hosted by Simpson College at Buxton Stadium in Indianola, Iowa, April 27-28. The Kip Jarvin Open is another high-profile meet in the Midwest, which in 2016, featured over 1,100 participants from 49 colleges and universities from around the nation.

ASHLAND ALUMNI OPEN
Kent State's throws team will make the short trip down to Dwight Schar Athletic Complex in Ashland, Ohio for the Ashland Alumni Open, April 28-29. The first event of the competition for the Golden Flashes will be the men's hammer throw, set to begin Friday at 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
At the Jesse Owens Classis and War Eagle Invitational last weekend, the Golden Flashes captured victories in six events.
At the Jesse Owens Classic, freshman Maria Horrigan turned in a breakout performance, taking first-place in the pole vault with a career-best mark of 4.11m (13' 5.75").
Danniel Thomas swept the women's discus and shot put titles for the second time this season, recording marks of 56.83m (186' 5.25") and 17.90m (58' 8.5"), respectively.
On the men's side, AJ Stevens captured first-place in the triple jump, posting a career-best mark of 15.38m (50' 5.5"). In the shot put, David Paliscak recording a winning mark of 17.57m (57' 7.5").
At the War Eagle Invitational, the women's 4x400m relay team of Tyler Williams, Jorian Ordway, Taylor Farquhar and Kayla Seymour took the top spot with a time of 3:42.69.
RANKING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• A total of 18 members of the Kent State track and field team have hit automatic qualifying marks for the 2017 Outdoor MAC Championships.
• The automatic qualifiers as of now on the women's side are: Jorian Ordway (400m), Lauren Burnett (800m), Swann Phelippeau (1,500m), Mi'Angel Daniels (110mH), Taylor Farquhar (400mH), Sam Tollerud (pole vault), Maria Horrigan (pole vault), Morgan Estes (pole vault), Danniel Thomas (discus and shot put), Jai'Lyn Mosley (discus) and Gabrielle Figueroa (hammer throw).
• On the men's side: Dairius Ragland (110mH), Christian Champen (pole vault), AJ Stevens (triple jump), David Paliscak (shot put), Reggie Jagers III (discus and hammer) and Trevor Detillion (discus) have hit automatic qualifying standards.

Following this weekend's series of meets, the Golden Flashes will wrap up the regular season at the Campbell-Wright Open hosted Akron May 5-6.
