
Stevens Captures Triple Jump Title Friday at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – Kent State track and field's AJ Stevens captured the men's triple jump championship, highlighting the Golden Flashes' day at the Drake Relays. Kent State also had student-athletes competing at the Kip Janvrin Open and the Ashland Alumni Open.
DRAKE RELAYS
On his second attempt, Stevens turned in a mark of 15.19m (49' 10"), which proved to be enough as he went on to win in the field of 19 competitors.
Christian Champen secured a third-place finish in the men's pole vault, clearing the bar at 5.20m (17' 0.75"). Finishing in 12th was Kyle Schlumbohm at a height of 4.90m (16' 0.75").
Both the women's 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams ran in the prelims Friday and qualified for the Saturday's finals. The 4x400m team of Tyler Williams, Jorian Ordway, Taylor Farquhar and Chelsea Laury finished fifth in the prelims with a time of 3:41.59, the ninth-fastest time in Kent State history. In the 4x100m prelims, Kayla Seymour, Ordway, Mi'Angel Daniels and Bennisha Nunn finished seventh with a time of 46.67 seconds. Nunn also ran in the, 100m dash prelims, qualifying for the finals with a time of 11.90 seconds.
In the finals of the women's 4x800m relay, the team of Lauren Burnett, Hannah Fleck, Olivia Gaus and Swann Phelippeau finished in sixth-place, crossing the finish line in 8:59.83.
In the women's 400m hurdles finals, Farquhar finished fourth with a time of 1:00.27. In the 100m hurdles prelims, Mi'Angel Daniels took 12th at 14.01 seconds.
On the men's side, the 4x100m relay team of Brandon Harris, Brian Smith, Jason Drake and TJ Lawson took fourth-place in the prelims with a time of 41.31 seconds, qualifying for the finals. Smith also ran in the 100m dash prelims, taking 17th with a time of 10.77 seconds.
In the men's 110m hurdles, Dairius Ragland narrowly missed qualifying for the finals, taking ninth in the prelims with a time of 14.39 seconds. Richard Dahome finished 21st with a time of 14.72 seconds.
Cayla Carey competed in the women's long jump, taking 12th place with a mark of 5.46m (17' 11"). In the high jump, Lauren Pannell finished tied for ninth at 1.68m (5' 6") and Talia Falco finished tied for 14th at 1.63m (5' 4.25").
KIP JANVRIN OPEN
After competing at the Drake Relays, a few Golden Flashes made the trip to Simpson College to compete in the Kip Janvrin Open.
Dairius Ragland ran in the 110m hurdles, taking first-place with a time of 14.90 seconds. In the 5,000m, Clark Bookman finished 11th with a time of 15:15.26.
Sarah Pack ran in the 800m and 1,500m runs, taking 16th and 20th with times of 2:22.35 and 4:55.29, respectively. Olivia Davis ran in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing 15th with a time of 12:23.20.
ASHLAND ALUMNI OPEN
Gabrielle Figueroa competed in the hammer throw Friday at the Ashland Alumni Open, taking third-place with a mark of 58.77m.
The Golden Flashes' weekend at the Drake Relays and Ashland Alumni Open continues Saturday.
