
Jagers and Thomas Reset Kent State Records at Ashland Open; Flashes Conclude Rainy Drake Relays

ASHLAND, Ohio – Kent State track and field's Reggie Jagers III (discus) Danniel Thomas (shot put) each set a career-best mark and new Kent State records at the Ashland Alumni Open Saturday. Golden Flashes also competed at the Drake Relays Saturday, a rainy conclusion to the esteemed meet.
After a lengthy rain delay, Thomas hit a career-best mark twice Saturday, throwing 18.32m (60' 1.25") on her second attempt and then unleashing on her sixth and final attempt for a winning mark of 18.49m (60' 8"). Her mark ranks second in the nation, just three-quarters of an inch behind Raven Saunders of Ole Miss. Thomas' mark also ranks fifth in the world.
Jagers shattered his career-best mark by throwing 61.64m (202' 3"), improving upon his previous top mark and school record of 197' 5". Jagers holds the second-best mark in the MAC and the sixth-best mark in the nation this season. Taking third-place was Trevor Detillion at a distance of 53.96m (177' 0.25").
Ada Nicholson-Burley was victorious in the open division of the women's discus, posting a mark of 45.50m (148' 11.25"). Victoria Ross took third with a mark of 42.98m (141' 0"). Rebecca Leppelmeier used a mark of 45.00m (147' 7.5") to secure a runner-up finish in the women's discus invitational section.
In the men's discus invitational section, David Paliscak captured fifth-place with a mark of 17.30m (56' 9"). Paliscak also competed in the open division of the men's discus, taking eighth at 44.43m (145' 9"). In the open division of the men's shot put, Walter Petzel took fourth-place at 15.73m (51' 7.25"), followed by Detillion in seventh at 15.28m (50' 1.5").
DRAKE RELAYS
A pair of Golden Flashes collected runner-up finishes at the Drake Relays Saturdays as Sam Tollerud took second in the women's pole vault and TJ Lawson took second in the men's long jump.
Tollerud and Maria Horrigan each finished the competition at height of 4.05m (13' 3.25"), with Tollerud clearing the bar on her first attempt to finish second overall and Horrigan clearing on her second attempt to finish fifth. Morgan Estes finished in a tie for ninth at a height of 3.90m (12' 9.5").
In the long jump, Lawson set an outdoor personal-record of 7.34m (24' 1"), finishing second overall, followed by Samory Fraga in fifth-place at 7.14m (23' 4.75"). Britni Phillips competed in the women's triple jump, finishing 13th with a jump of 11.84m (38' 10.25").
Bennisha Nunn collected a fifth-place finish in the women's 100m dash, crossing the finish line in 12.02 seconds. In the 1,500m run, Swann Phelippeau took ninth with a time of 4:37.92.
In the relay events, the women's 4x100m of Kayla Seymour, Jorian Ordway, Mi'Angel Daniels and Nunn finished in fifth-place with a time of 46.07 seconds. Tyler Williams, Ordway, Taylor Farquhar and Lauren Burnett teamed up to take fourth at 3:43.27. In the sprint medley relay Daniels, Cayla Carey, Seymour and Olivia Gaus captured 10th with a time of 4:01.10.
On the men's side, the 4x100m relay team of Brandon Harris, Brian Smith, Jason Drake and TJ Lawson captured fourth-place at 41.01 seconds.
Kent State concludes the regular season next week at the Campbell-Wright Open, hosted by Akron.
