
Thomas Takes Two Titles, Resets Shot Put Record at Crimson Tide Invite

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Danniel Thomas of Kent State's women's track and field program captured the discus and shot put titles and set the all-time Kent State shot put record Saturday at the Crimson Tide Invitational.
Thomas set the tone early for Kent State, capturing the discus throw title with a mark 58.03m (190' 4"), in what was the first event of the day. In the shot put, Thomas originally set a personal-record of 17.68m on her third attempt to advance to the finals where she would set the new school record of 18.13m (59' 5.75") on her fifth attempt. Her mark in the shot put ranks second in the nation, while her mark in the discus ranks fourth.
Taking second-place in the pole vault was Sam Tollerud with a season-best mark of 4.07m (13' 4.25"). Maria Horrigan took fifth with a mark of 3.97m (13' 0.25"), which moves her into sixth in the Kent State record book.
In the first running event of the day, the 4x100m relay team of Kayla Seymour, Jorian Ordway, Mi'Angel Daniels and Bennisha Nunn recorded the second-fastest time in Kent State history at 45.73 to finish sixth overall.
The 4x400m relay team of Tyler Williams, Ordway, Taylor Farquhar and Lauren Burnett also moved into second-place in the Kent State record book as they recorded a time of 3:40.43 to take third-place in the event. Both relays teams currently lead the Mid-American Conference.
In the 100m hurdles, Daniels ran 13.87 seconds to take sixth and move into sixth all-time in the Kent State record book. Daniels also took 13th in the 200m dash with a time of 24.82 seconds.
Ordway followed the relay performance up with a seventh-place finish in the 400m at 55.38 seconds, followed by Tyler Williams in ninth at 55.79. In the 100m dash, Nunn finished 10th (12.11), Seymour finished 14th (12.33, personal-record) and Cayla Carey finished 16th (12.37). Carey also competed in the long jump, taking fifth with a PR of 5.90m (19' 4.25"). Seymour recorded another PR in the 200m dash, running 25.13 to take 16th.
Running in her first collegiate outdoor meet, Swann Phelippeau captured sixth-place in the 1,500m with a time of 4:28.88, which moves her into seventh all-time in Kent State history.
In the 800m, Lauren Burnett secured seventh-place with a time of 2:10.28, followed by Olivia Gaus in ninth with a PR 2:11.92. Olivia Davis captured fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase as she crossed the finish line in 11:21.00.
Lauren Pannell and Talia Falco each finished the high jump with a mark of 1.60m (5' 3"). Pannell cleared the bar on her first attempt, putting her in a five-way tie for fourth-place, while Falco cleared on her third attempt. to finish ninth.
Next weekend, the Golden Flashes will head the University of Akron for the Northeast Ohio Quad, April 14-15.
