
Holt and Johnson Named Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND – A pair of MAC Golfers of the Year in Ian Holt and Chase Johnson were each honored by the Mid-American Conference Friday as part of the 2017 Men's Golf Academic All-MAC Team.
The 2017 MAC Golfer of the Year Ian Holt was honored for holding a 3.325 GPA as a business management major. Holt enters the NCAA postseason ranked 64th in the nation and holds one tournament win at the Cleveland State Invitational. His scoring average of 71.43 is the second best mark of all-time at Kent State. He's also recorded three rounds of 65 this season, a first in program history.
Last year's MAC Golfer of the Year, Chase Johnson, was honored for his 3.446 GPA in the communications studies program. A 2017 All-MAC First Teamer, Johnson currently ranks 179th in the nation. He's placed in the top-30 of every tournament he's played in, including a sixth place finish at the MAC Championship. He's currently averaging a career-best 72.49 scoring average.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Student-athletes must compete at their current institution for at least one full season before becoming eligible.
