
Estes and Thomas Earn MAC Championships Friday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kent State track and field's Morgan Estes (pole vault) and Danniel Thomas (shot put) earned Mid-American Conference Championships Friday at Kanley Track & Field Complex in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Estes, a senior, captured her first-career MAC Championship Friday, taking first in the pole vault with a mark of 4.13m (13' 6.5"). Taking second-place was Sam Tollerud with a mark of 4.03m (13' 2.5"), followed by Maria Horrigan in fifth-place at 3.88m (12' 8.75"). In total pole vault group earned 21.5 points towards the Golden Flashes total score.
Thomas, a redshirt senior, earned her eighth-career MAC title, posting a winning mark of 17.72m (58' 1.5"). Thomas' top mark, which came on her first attempt is MAC Championship meet record.
Cayla Carey had a stand-out performance Friday, finishing runner-up in the long jump with a career-best mark of 6.17m (20' 2.75"). Carey's mark ranks third all-time in Kent State history.
Eight Golden Flashes finished in the top-eight Friday's running events, qualifying for Saturday's finals, including:

Jorian Ordway – 400m
Tyler Williams – 400m
Hannah Fleck – 800m
Olivia Gaus – 800m
Swann Phelippeau – 1,500m
Mi'Angel Daniels – 100mH
Taylor Farquhar – 400mH
Daniels (13.77 seconds), Farquhar (58.59 seconds) and Williams (54.88 seconds) all recorded personal-records in their events.
In the team standings, the Golden Flashes are second with 49.5 points, just behind Akron with 50.5 points.
The women's championship resumes Saturday at 11:30 a.m. with the triple jump. The women's 4x100m relay at 1:10 p.m. is the women's running event of the day.
