
Women Finish Third at MAC Championships; Thomas and 4x400 Relay Team Take Indvidual Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Kent State's women's track and field program captured third-place at the 2017 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships Saturday as they scored a total of 118.5 points. Danniel Thomas (discus) and the women's 4x400m relay team secured individual championships, bringing the Golden Flashes' weekend total to four.
Danniel Thomas earned her second championship of the weekend, taking the discus title with a meet record mark of 59.31m (194' 7"). With her two championships, Thomas was named the MAC's Most Outstanding Field Performer. Taking fourth-place in the discus was Jai'lyn Mosley with a mark of 48.98m (160' 8").
The women's 4x400m relay team comprised of Tyler Williams, Jorian Ordway, Lauren Burnett and Taylor Farquhar turned in a time of 3:41.23, to claim the fourth 4x400 MAC Championship in program history and the first since 2002. Farquhar also competed in the 400m hurdles, taking third-place with a time of 59.02 seconds.
After recording a PR of 54.88 seconds in the 400m dash prelims, Williams ran 54.57 in the finals to take third-place. Williams' time is the eighth-fastest in Kent State history. Ordway finished sixth in the 400m with a time of 55.02 seconds.
Olivia Gaus recorded a career-best time of 2:08.43 in the 800m, earning a bronze medal in the process. Gaus' time ranks seventh all-time in Kent State history. Hannah Fleck also turned in a career-best time in the 800m, running 2:09.19 to finish in fourth-place. Fleck's time ranks ninth in school history.
In the 100m hurdles, Mi'Angel Daniels captured third-place by running a career-best 13.62 seconds, the second-fastest time in school history. In the 100m dash, Bennisha Nunn finished ninth as she crossed the finish line in 12.02 seconds.
The 4x100m relay team of Kayla Seymour, Ordway, Daniels and Nunn took fourth-place with a time of 46.14 seconds.
Swann Phelippeau took ninth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:40.08, while Rachel Slingluff took 16th in the 5,000m at 18:06.98.
Talia Falco set a new personal-best mark in the triple jump of 12.10m (39' 8.25") as she finished sixth overall. Britni Phillips took 10th in the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.91m (39' 0.75"). In the high jump, Lauren Pannell captured fifth-place at a height of 1.70m (5' 6.75"). Falco finished ninth at 1.66m (5' 5.25") and Chelsea Laury took 18th at 1.56m (5' 1.25").
Akron won the women's championship with 128 points, followed by Eastern Michigan (124), Kent State (118.5), Northern Illinois (84.5), Miami (74), Toledo (63), Bowling Green (60), Western Michigan (53), Buffalo (48) and Central Michigan (26).
Kent State will next compete in the NCAA East Regional Championships in Lexington, Ky. May 25-27.
