Kent State freshman Pimnipa Panthong was named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America Second Team Tuesday afternoon. Panthong becomes the first Kent State golfer to earn higher than Honorable Mention status on an All-America Team.
A native of Nakhon Sawan, Thailand, Panthong recently helped the Golden Flashes to a Top 5 finish at the NCAA Championships. Last month, she was named Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Year.
"We knew Pim was a special player coming into the fall, but we didn't know she'd hit the ground running the way that she did," Head Coach Greg Robertson said. "She works hard and does all the right things. And along with being dedicated to her game, she's a great person and a great teammate. We're lucky to have her in our program."
Panthong set multiple program records in her first four college tournaments. She helped the Flashes to four tournament titles, including a 19th consecutive MAC crown.
Wad Phaewchimplee was the last Kent State golfer to earn All-America honors in 2014.
The Flashes' season came to an end Tuesday during the quarterfinals of match play at the NCAA Championships in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
