
Fraga Punches Ticket to Eugene

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kent State track and field's Samory Fraga clinched a spot in the 2017 NCAA Track and Field Championships, as he took 11th in the long jump Thursday at the NCAA East Prelims hosted by the University of Kentucky.
Fraga, a sophomore from Porto Alegre, Brazil, earned his first bid to Tracktown USA by jumping 7.49m (24' 7") to finish 11th out of 48-man field. Fraga will look to become the first male in Kent State track and field history to earn All-America honors in the long.
Also competing in the rainy conditions Thursday was Taylor Farquhar in the first round of the 400m hurdles. Farquhar ran 59.88 seconds to finish fifth in her heat and 24th overall, claiming the final spot in Friday's quarterfinal round. The quarterfinals are set to run at 7 p.m. Friday evening.
In the women's hammer throw, Gabrielle Figueroa finished in 19th place, as she recorded a top mark of 56.93m (186' 9"). Cayla Carey represented Kent State in the women's long jump. Carey, making her prelims debut, captured 37th with a mark of 5.89m (19' 4").
Sam Tollerud was Kent State's top finisher in the women's pole vault, finishing tied for 18th after clearing the bar at 3.95m (12' 11.5") on her first attempt. Maria Horrigan finished tied for 25th as she was able to clear 3.95m but needed two attempts to do so. Morgan Estes tied for 33rd, having cleared the bar at 3.80m (12' 5.5").
The Golden Flashes continue their weekend at the NCAA East Prelims Friday at 2 p.m. as Jai'Lyn Mosley and Danniel Thomas compete in the women's discus.
