Thomas and Tollerud Named CoSIDA Academic All-District®

Kent State women's track and field's Danniel Thomas and Sam Tollerud have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® 5 Team as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday, May 25.
Thomas is a first-year graduate student from Westmoreland, Jamaica, and owns a 3.67 grade point average in Kent State's sports and recreation management program. Along with being named Academic All-Mid-American Conference and a MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete this year, Thomas was a co-recipient of Kent State's Janet Bachna Award.
So far in 2017, Thomas has further cemented herself as one of the greats in Kent State track and field history, taking second-place in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, earning USTFCCCA All-Region honors and winning three MAC Championships (indoor shot, outdoor shot put and outdoor discus). This weekend, Thomas is set to compete in the NCAA East Region Prelims as the No. 2 seed in the shot put and discus.
Tollerud, a junior from Eugene, Ore., garners Academic All-District® honors stemming from her perfect 4.0 GPA as a student-athlete in Kent State's exercise science/pre-physical therapy program. During the winter season, Tollerud earned Academic All-MAC and MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors.
The veteran pole vaulter has continued to showcase her abilities in 2017, earning All-MAC First Team honors as a result of her MAC Indoor Championship in the pole vault. Tollerud also broke the Kent State indoor pole vault record, jumping 4.20m (13' 9.5") at the EMU Triangular in January. Like Thomas, Tollerud will be competing in the NCAA East Region Prelims this weekend, vying for a birth into the national championships.
In order to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors, nominees must carry at least a 3.30 GPA and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions. Thomas and Tollerud will move on to the voting for Academic All-America® honors, set to be announced in June.
