
Flashes' Entire Lineup Makes PING All-Region Team

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Weeks after earning five All-MAC First Team honors, all five student-athletes in the Kent State University men's golf lineup have been named to the PING All-Region Team.
Currently competing at the NCAA National Championship, Josh Whalen, Ian Holt, Chase Johnson, Bjarki Petursson and Gisli Sveinbergsson were all honored for their strong play. Kent State's entire lineup ranks in the national top-200.
Whalen is completing his senior year in spectacular fashion. He currently ranks 57th in the nation and second on the team. He's recorded seven eagles on the season, which ranks 22nd in the nation, and recorded a career low round of 64 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.
Holt picks up another honor after earning MAC Golfer of the Year. Ranked 45th in the nation, Holt holds a scoring average of 71.29. He is in the national top-10 for birdies at 149, and is tied with Whelan in total eagles at seven. He set the all-time three-round scoring mark this season back at the Cleveland State Invitational, earning a 198 over 54 holes.
Former MAC Player of the Year Johnson is honored, working his way to the 185th national ranking coming into Nationals. He has averaged a score of 72.66 this season with 129 birdies. Johnson has been a consistent performer on par-5's this season, averaging a score of 4.73 per hole.
Petursson is the nation's 94th ranked golfer, and as of this posting, is in the running for an individual national title. Petursson has two tournament championships this season at the Gopher Individual and the Boilermaker Invitational. He has averaged 72.18 scoring on the year.
Finally, Sveinbergsson is honored after entering this week's final tournament at 100 in the nation. He is the 2017 MAC Champion and placed second at the Seahawk Intercollegiate. He has recorded 125 birdies this season and averages 11.11 pars per round.
