A Total of Five Golden Flashes Have Now Punched Their Tickets Eugene
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Reggie Jagers III, AJ Stevens and Danniel Thomas each finished in the top-12 of their respective events Saturday at the NCAA East Region Prelims, punching their tickets to the 2017 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
After waiting through a lengthy lightning delay, Jagers earned his fourth-career trip to the national championships in the discus, taking third-place on Saturday with a mark of 61.22m (200' 10"). Already a three-time All-American, Jagers will look to improve upon his seventh-place from last years national championships. Trevor Detillion also competed in the discus, finishing 40th with a mark of 50.61m (166' 0").
Stevens, a sophomore, secured his first birth to the national championships by taking eighth-place in the triple jump that finished right before the lightning delay occurred. The MAC triple jump champion jumped 15.73m (51' 7.25") to clinch his spot in the championship.
Thomas, who already claimed a spot in the discus finals, took third-place in the shot put Saturday with a mark of 17.48m (57' 4.25"). This is the third time in her career she has qualified for the national championships in both events.
DJ Ohlson competed in the men's high jump, tying for 42nd at a height of 2.0m (6' 6.75").
The four Golden Flashes finishing in the top-12 this weekend will join TJ Lawson, who previously qualified in the decathlon, as they head to Eugene June 7-10 for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
