
Track and Field to Conclude Regular Season at Campbell-Wright Open

Kent State's track and field programs will close-out the regular season this weekend as they head to rival Akron for the second time to compete in the Campbell-Wright Open, May 6-7.Â
The competition from the Lee R. Jackson Track Complex gets underway Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the women's and men's hammer throws. Saturday's action begins at 11 a.m. with the women's javelin. There will be a few new but familiar faces in the field for the Golden Flashes this weekend softball's Vanessa Vodan will compete in the women's javelin, while football's Derek Adams and Kavious Price will be competing in the men's javelin and 4x100m relay, respectively.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend's competition at the Ashland Alumni resulted in two Kent State records being rewritten. Danniel Thomas recorded a career-best mark of 18.49m (60' 8") in the women's shot put, to take first-place in the event and extend her rank as the school record holder. In the men's discus, Reggie Jagers III took second with a career-best mark of 61.64m (202' 3"), which puts him sixth in the nation. For their efforts, Jagers and Thomas swept Mid-American Conference Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, honors as announced earlier this week.
Kent State also competed at the highly competitive Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open last weekend. AJ Stevens took home the men's triple jump crown Friday evening, posting a winning mark of 15.19m (49' 10"). In the women's 800m on Thursday night, Olivia Gaus turned in a career-best time of 2:09.18 to take first-place.
Following a ninth-place finish in the 110m hurdles at the Drake Relays, Dairius Ragland made his way to the Kip Janvrin Open where he took first-place with a time of 14.90 seconds.
RANKING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• The men's program has three event teams ranked inside the top-25 nationally. The discus group led by Jagers and Trevor Detillion rank 14th nationally, the pole vault squad ranks 24th and the 110m hurdles group ranks 19th.
• With three of the top six marks in the MAC and Thomas ranked fourth nationally, the women's discus squad ranks second in the nation.
• With a time of 14.39 seconds in the 110m hurdles at the Drake Relays, Ragland took over the top spot in the MAC.
• The top of the MAC's women's pole vault rankings is filled with Golden Flashes as Sam Tollerud (4.16m) ranks first, Maria Horrigan (4.11m) is third and Morgan Estes (4.01m) is fourth.
• With her personal-record time in the 800m last weekend, Gaus now ranks second in the conference, followed by Lauren Burnett in fifth at 2:10.28.

Following the conclusion of the regular season this weekend, Kent State will move on to the 2017 MAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Western Michigan May 11-13. Â
