Kent State senior Maddy Grimm was named to the 2017 Academic All-District™ Softball Second Team for District V, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A standout on the field who is a three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Mideast Region and two-time All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection, Grimm carries a 3.513 grade point average as an exercise science major.
Entering the final weekend of the regular season, Grimm is the MAC leader with 16 home runs, 47 RBIs, a .789 slugging percentage, a .506 on-base percentage and a conference-record 46 walks. She also leads the Golden Flashes with 43 runs scored and has a .317 batting average.
Grimm owns career program records in seven offensive categories and is the MAC's all-time leader in walks (128). She ranks second in conference history in home runs (66), RBIs (185) and slugging percentage (.761).
Last week, Grimm was selected by the Akron Racers in the fifth round of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) College Draft. She is the third Kent State student-athlete to be drafted by the professional league and just the sixth from a Mid-American Conference program.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. In order to be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve and maintain at least a 3.30 grade point average.
Kent State (24-25) hosts Bowling Green this weekend at the Diamond at Dix to conclude the regular season. The series is scheduled for a single game Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
