
Five Golden Flashes Heading to Eugene for National Championships

KENT, Ohio – Kent State track & field will send five student-athletes to Eugene, Ore to compete in the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at the University of Oregon, June 7-10.

The five championships bound Golden Flashes include two TrackTown USA veterans in Reggie Jagers III and Danniel Thomas, and first-time qualifiers Samory Fraga, TJ Lawson and AJ Stevens.
Lawson will be the first Golden Flash in action this week as the decathlon gets underway Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Lawson, who captured the MAC Championship in the decathlon, enters the competition as No. 13 seed.
Fraga will also be in action on Wednesday, as he competes in the long jump at 9 p.m. The sophomore from Porto Alegre, Brazil finished third at the MAC Championships with a career-best mark of 7.63m (25' 0.5"), and then finished 11th East Region Prelims to qualify for the national championships.
Thomas is making her fourth-career trip to Eugene, and will compete in both the discus and shot put for the third time in her career. The eight-time All-American will first compete in the shot put as the No. 2 seed on Thursday at 9:40 p.m. Thomas will then compete in the discus as the No. 4 seed on Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
Jagers is also making his fourth-career trip to Eugene, and will compete in the discus at 8:05 p.m. on Friday. Last year, Jagers finished seventh in country, earning All-America First Team honors. Jagers currently ranks sixth in the nation with his personal and Kent State record mark of 61.64m (202' 3").
Stevens, a sophomore, has qualified for the national championship in the triple jump following his eighth-place finish at the East Region Prelims. Stevens' best mark of the year of 16.06m (52' 8.25") ranks 21st in the country. He will compete on Friday at 8:40 p.m.
