KENT, Ohio – Kent State senior Maddy Grimm has been named a Fastpitch News Honorable Mention All-American, the website announced on Friday (June 9).
All-America status caps a terrific final collegiate season for Grimm in which she also garnered NFCA All-Mideast Region First Team, Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Nan Harvey Award and All-MAC Tournament Team honors.
Grimm set Kent State records this season with 19 home runs (tied own record set in 2015), 55 RBIs, 51 walks (also a MAC record), 61 games played and 60 games started. Her 50 runs scored and 123 total bases rank second in school history, coming within one of records she set in 2016. She also led the Golden Flashes with a .329 batting average, 12 doubles, .778 slugging percentage and .498 on-base percentage.
The slugger was among the national leaders in home runs (8th), walks (10th), walks per game (19th), RBIs per game (19th), slugging percentage (28th), total bases (38th) and on-base percentage (43rd). She led the MAC in home runs, RBIs, walks, slugging percentage and on-base percentage, while ranking second in runs scored and total bases.
Grimm is currently in her rookie season with the Akron Racers after being selected with the 23rd overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) draft.
One of the greatest softball players in Kent State history, Grimm was part of an outstanding senior class that won a program record 136 games over the past four seasons, which included back-to-back MAC regular season championships in 2015 and 2016 and a MAC Tournament crown and NCAA Tournament appearance this past season.
Grimm finished her career as the MAC all-time leader in walks (133) and sits in second in conference history in runs scored (172), home runs (69), RBIs (192) and slugging percentage (.769). She is also Kent State's record holder for on-base percentage (.455) and total bases (456), while ranking second in doubles (43), games played (212) and games started (209).
