
Flashes In Costa Rica: Updates

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University men's basketball team is currently traveling in Costa Rica to compete in three exhibition games.
The trip is the first foreign tour for the Golden Flashes since 2013. Kent State's trip  is highlighted by a game against the Costa Rican National Team. Kent State will also compete against Canadian intercollegiate programs Laurentian University and McGill University.

August 16-17
- The men's basketball team spent the final full days of the trip on the pacific coast, starting with a zip line tour of the rain forest Wednesday morning. That evening was spent at Jaco Beach once again for dinner. On Thursday, the team was given free time to enjoy the resort before a team dinner on site.Â

August 15
- Kent State men's hoops checked out of the Marriott San Jose and headed off to the pacific coast. After a quick lunch stop, the team dropped by Crocodile Bridge, home to the largest crocodiles on the planet.Â

 - The Flashes then checked into the Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort, where the team immediately hit the water for an afternoon by the pool. After a few hours at the resort, the Flashes went to Jaco Beach for dinner.Â

August 14
- The Flashes ended their competition schedule with a game against a tough McGill squad. Kent State fell to the hot-shooting team, 85-79. To read up on the game, click HERE.Â
August 13
- The Flashes started the day taking a tour of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. The team had the chance to see inside Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, the national team's official stadium. From there, they visited Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica, the national craft market and Parque Nacional.

August 12
- The Flashes had a busy first full day in San Jose, starting with a ride out to the country to visit the Sibú Chocolate factory. There, the team was taken on a tasting tour, learning about the history of chocolate and its importance to the area. Julio Fernandez Amón and George Soriano of Sibú were gracious enough to take a photo afterwards with the team.Â

- After lunch, the Flashes competed in their first game since the NCAA Tournament against Laurentian. Kent State faced a tough Canadian side that had played three games already this week in Costa Rica. The Flashes won, 83-82, on a Jalen Avery game-winner. August 11
- The Flashes traveled on an early route from CLE, through Charlotte and into San Jose on two very smooth flights. The Flashes arrived in San Jose around 2 p.m. local time, ate at a plaza near the airport and headed to the resort for a night of rest. The downtime is crucial, considering Kent State will play games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. KentStateSports.com will have postgame stories throughout the weekend.
