No. 20 Men's Golf To Begin Maui Jim Intercollegiate

KENT, Ohio – The No. 20 Kent State University men's golf team is in Scottsdale, Arizona set to compete in the three-day Maui Jim Intercollegiate at the par 72 Desert Forest Golf Club Sept. 22-24.
The Golden Flashes will play 18 holes per day through Sunday against some of the nation's best teams. Kent State will tee off at 7:30 a.m. MST in the first round, paired with Georgia State and No. 3 Kansas. Other teams in the field include: Arizona State, Nebraska, Rice, No. 9 Georgia Tech, LSU, Augusta, Gonzaga, Minnesota, Hawai'i, Houston and Lipscomb.
Kent State will be entering six golfers in the tournament, five on the team and one as an individual. Ian Holt, Chase Johnson, Bjarki Petursson, Gisli Sveinbergsson and Chris Doody will make up the team lineup, while freshman Josh Gilkison will compete as an individual.
The Flashes enter the tournament 10-3 against the national top-100 teams after a strong performance at the Gopher Invitational. Holt highlighted the team's run with an individual title, earning MAC Golfer of the Week honors and claiming sixth overall in Golfweek's national individual rankings.
Kent State is competing in the Maui Jim Intercollegiate for the second year in a row, having finished third overall in the tournament last year. Kent State finished ahead of multiple nationally ranked teams with a score of 24-under par 828 (264-279-285). Holt and Johnson both finished in the top-10.
