Cross Country Set for All-Ohio Championships

Kent State cross country hits the halfway point of the 2017 when it competes at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday at Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio.
The largest intercollegiate cross country meet in the state, the All-Ohio Championships will feature 49 schools encompassing all divisions from around the state. More than 1,300 runners are expected to compete in the two championships races as well as the Men's Open race and Women's Open race.
The men's 8k race is scheduled to start the meet at 2 p.m. with the women's 6k to follow at 2:45 p.m.
Weather permitting, both races will be streamed live on Stretch Internet.
Last Time Out
Kent State competed at the RedHawk Rumble on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Oxford, Ohio.
In the men's 8k race, Clark Bookman finished fifth to lead the Golden Flashes. Bookman bested his previous collegiate 8k personal-best by more than 10 seconds with a time of 25:55.2. Sam Goodman (26:24.0) finished 11th, Sam Michael (27:10.4) came in 16th, Josh Gogan (27:17.2) took 18th and Brandon Avers (27:27.0) finished 20th to give Kent State five runners in the top-20.
On the women's side, Maddie Dunlap finished third for the second time in as many collegiate races. Running in her first 6k, Dunlap recorded a time of 22:28.7. Morgan Arena (23:57.4) placed 18th, Nicole Fleming (23:58.1) finished 19th and Olivia Davis (24:02.0) placed 20th.
Flashes at All-Ohio Championships
This will be the 63rd men's race at the All-Ohio Championships. Kent State has been the overall winner three times (1975, 2000, 2003). The Golden Flashes have had the individual winner on four occasions, most recently Matt Cornwell in 2003. Michael Heller owns the 13th-fastest 8k time in championships history (24:37.2) with his runner-up finish in 2012.
The Flashes last competed at the All-Ohio Championships in 2015. The men finished eighth out of 10 Division I teams. Kyle Brooks was Kent State's top finisher with a time of 25:44.32 for 40th place. Brandon Avers finished 55th in a time of 26:00.14 to lead current Flashes.
This will be the All-Ohio Championships' 37th women's race. Kent State has been the overall winner on four occasions (1999, 2000, 2001, 2004).
Rachel Slingluff paced Kent State at 21:51.29 to finish sixth and record the 21-best 6k time in event history. Emily Henry recorded a time of 23:34.27 to lead all current Flashes in 63rd place.
