
Gymnastics Beats No. 18 GW and Temple on Senior Night

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team posted a final team score of 196.325, its second-best this season, to defeat No. 18 George Washington (195.650) and Temple (195.075), on Senior Night.
The Golden Flashes scored a 49.250 on both floor and balance beam, 49.225 on uneven bars, and a 48.600 on vault. This is the fourth time this season the Flashes have earned a 49.000 or better on three of the four apparatuses.
Three gymnasts in the beam lineup placed in the top five, as Kent State tied the fifth-best score in program history (49.250). Senior Rachel Stypinski won with a score of 9.975, which is tied for the third-highest score in school history. Junior Alyssa Quinlan and freshman Abby Fletcher both earned career-highs and tied for fourth place with a 9.875. Senior Ali Marrero finished with a 9.775.
Also posting career-highs were sophomore Sarah McCarty and freshman Nasha Manitkul-Davis, who tied for first place on floor with a 9.925. Senior Michaela Romito took seventh place with a 9.825, while Quinlan posted a 9.800.
Kent State had a strong bar rotation with all four seniors placing in the top five. Marrero scored a 9.900 to tie for first with Stypinski, while Romito took third place with a 9.825. Brooke Timko and junior Sarah Lippowitsch tied for fourth place with a 9.800. Junior Dara Williams scored a 9.775 to tie for seventh place.
On vault, the Golden Flashes' top performers were Manitkul-Davis and Williams, both scoring a 9.750 to tie for seventh place.
Kent State will head to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan for the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday, March 24. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
