
Golden Flashes Near the Top of Leaderboard After Round One at The Hootie Intercollegiate

CHARLESTON, S.C. After the 18 holes on Sunday, Kent State sits in a tie for second place at the Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Course in Charleston, S.C.
The No. 34 Golden Flashes shot a 7-under-par 281 on the 7,220-yard, par-72 Bulls Bay Golf course, finishing in a three-way tie for second place. Of the Flashes in second are Kentucky and Iowa State. Kent State sits behind the leader Missouri (10-under). Among the teams in the field, seven finished the day under par.
The combined 22 birdies by the Flashes' quintet of seniors Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio), Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio), juniors Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland), Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland), and freshman Josh Gilkison (Springboro, Ohio) ranked No.1 in the field.
Johnson and Holt finished the day in a tie for fourth place, individually after carding a 5-under-par 69. Petursson shot a 70 (2-under) for 13th. Sveinbergsson (73) and Gilkison (77) will begin Monday's second round in ties for 37th and 64th place.
