Kent State Posts Seven Victories Saturday at Oliver Nikoloff Open

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Kent State track and field program concluded a busy opening weekend to the outdoor season at the Oliver Nikoloff Open on Saturday. The Golden Flashes earned seven event titles on the day.
The men's team accounted for five of the victories, including four field events. Trevor Detillion captured the discus throw title with a top mark of 171'-0". Douglas Moorer, Jr. was right behind with a top throw of 167'-7" for a runner-up finish. David Paliscak gave Kent State's throwers another victory with a mark of 54'-5" in the shot put.
Evan Lesnick cleared 15'-5.75" to win the pole vault, and Mitchell Kubicki took third-place with a height of 14'-6". Anthony Milliner leaped 48'-0.50" to win the triple jump in his first collegiate outdoor competition. Brad Jones also had a good showing with a runner-up finish in the high jump at 6'-6".
Korie Davis II gave the Flashes' men their lone victory on the track, clocking a 21.90 in the 200-meter dash. Davis II sprinted his way to fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.25.
Clark Bookman ran a personal-best 14:50.36 to place second in the 5,000-meter run. Kevin Jones also placed second with a time of 3:57.46 in the 1500-meter run. Kole Johnson took third in the 400-meter run with a personal-best time of 49.89. Dairius Ragland and Jacob Mally took third and fourth, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles with nearly identical times. Nicole Yeargin contributed to both event titles for the women's team. Yeargin ran a 56.73 to win the 400-meter dash and ran the first leg of the 4x400 relay team that clocked a 3:50.5. Lauren Burnett, Tyler Williams and Irene Skinner joined Yeargin on that relay team. Williams picked up a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.79, while Burnett placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.17.
Penn State transfer Rachel Banks came within half of a second from victory in her Golden Flashes debut, placing second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:40.10.
Kent State had a strong showing in the pole vault, taking the second through fourth spots in the competition. Ally Thompson cleared a personal-best 13'-0.25" to rank seventh in the Flashes' record book. One day after competing at the Texas Relays, Sam Tollerud and Maria Horrigan both had a top height of 12'-6.25". Tollerud cleared that height on her first try, while Horrigan was successful on her third attempt.
Jai'Lyn Mosley took second in the discus throw with a top toss of 159'-8". Grace Tennant was right behind her with a throw of 145'-11" to place third.
Kent State will head to Akron for the Northeast Ohio Quad on April 6-7.
