KENT, Ohio – The Kent State softball team fell to the Ohio Bobcats twice on Wednesday afternoon at the Diamond at Dix. The Golden Flashes fell in a tight game, 4-2, in game one of the doubleheader, but Ohio exploded to win 22-7 in the second game. Holly Speers hit her 10th homer of the season and 41st of her career to highlight the Kent State offense.

Game 1: Ohio 4, Kent State 2

The Golden Flashes struck first in the first. Kennadie Goth was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Emily Dobbin. Bailey Brownfield drove in the run with a two out single to center.

Ohio came back to score two runs in the third on a solo homer by Katie Young and a single by Alexa Holland to take a 2-1 lead.

Emily Dobbin tied things up with a deep single to center in the fifth, driving in Kaitlyn Miller.

The Bobcats scored the go-ahead runs in the fifth on a two-run shot to left by Morgan Geno and Ohio never looked back.

Kent State had runners on base and left a total of eight on base and were unable to capitalize for more than single tallies.

Madi Huck (11-5) threw six innings, allowing four earned runs with four walks and five strikeouts. Danielle Stiene earned the victory and allowed six hits, two earned runs with three walks and six strikeouts.

Game 2: Ohio 22, Kent State 7 (5 innings)

The Bobcats clubbed six homers in the ballgame for an offensive explosion of 22 runs. The Bobcats scored in every inning of the contest. Holly Speers was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Jen Cader also had a two RBI single.
