No.26 Men’s Golf Named Co-Champions After Shortened Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- After a steady rainfall caused the Kampen Course to become unplayable, the third round of the Boilermaker Invitational was canceled, the No.26 men's golf team finished as co-champions.
Kent State and North Western finished as co-champions at 3-over par 579, while Indiana and host Purdue finished at 4-over and 5-over, respectively.
Senior Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio) finished in the top-10 of the tournament in a tie for ninth. Holt was steady through the conditions Saturday, shooting a tournament-low first round score of 4-under 68 and a 76 second round. One stroke back from Holt in a tie for 12th is junior Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland)and Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland). Petursson shot an even par to begin the tournament and carded a 73 in round two. The junior also shot 10 birdies on the day. Sveinbergsson shot under-par in the first round at 1-under 71 and carded a 74 second round. Sveinbergsson leads the team with 27 pars.
Senior Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio) finished the day in a tie for 46th with a 4-over 148 total. In the first round, Johnson carded a 4-over 76 but bettered his second round score with an even-par.
Freshman Josh Gilkison (Springboro, Ohio) rounded out the squad with a 149 score after two tied for 46th. In the opening round, Gilkison was just 2-over 74, followed by carding a 75 second round score.
The Flashes will play one more regular season tournament before competing in the Mid-American Conference Championships, competing in the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio, April 21-22.
