Mally Sets Pair of PRs to Open Decathlon at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa — Kent State's Jacob Mally won the high jump and also set a personal-best in the 400-meter dash during Wednesday's opening day of the decathlon at the Drake Relays. The freshman is currently in seventh-place among the field of 13 athletes with 3,362 points.
Mally finished the day strong with PRs in the final two events of the day. He cleared 6'-7.5" to win the high jump and earn 822 points, which vaulted him from 12th to seventh in the event standings. Mally then ran the 400-meter dash in 52.52 to get within 15 points of sixth-place.
The final five decathlon events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET Thursday. The Golden Flashes will have five additional athletes in action during the evening session. Rachel Banks and Lauren Burnett will compete in the women's 800-meter run, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET, while Kevin Jones and Andrew O'Leary will take part in the men's 800-meter run right after. Clark Bookman will conclude the day for the Flashes in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 8:22 p.m. ET.
