
Tollerud Hits NCAA Qualifying Mark at Northeast Ohio Quad

AKRON, Ohio - Kent State senior Sam Tollerud punched her ticket to the 2018 NCAA Regionals Saturday at the Northeast Ohio Quad, held at both Lee Jackson Field and Stile Field House. The Golden Flashes' women won three individual events on Saturday, while the men won two on day two of the University of Akron's event.
Tollerud's third place pole vault, cleared 4.18 meters.
The Golden Flashes' women also got a strong showing from its freshman class, led by Sarena Choi, who won the triple jump, totaling 11.58 meters.
Sophomore Vanessa Vodan and freshman Grace Tennant finished first and second in the javelin respectively. Vodan's throw went 45.0 meters, while Tennant's was 41.97.
Four other freshmen earned top five finishes, including Samantha Hyme, who placed third in the 1,500 meters crossing the line at 4:53.44. Junior Olivia Davis was just behind her in fourth place at 4:55.62. Freshman Nicole Fleming was fifth at 4:55.
Freshman Alyssa Matheny was fifth in the high jump, reaching 1.67 meters and freshman Brielle Collier was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 45.53.
Sophomore Nicole Yeargin won the 300-meter dash. Yeargin topped 11 other competitors with a time of 38.24. Yeargin also finished fourth among 19 competitors in the 100 m with a time of 12.09.
Senior Irene Skinner was fourth in the 300 crossing the line at 40.17.
Junior Morgan Manuel took second in 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:50.4.
Sophomore Raja Rutherford was third in the long jump, going 5.22 meters.
Senior Robin Foster was fourth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:45.86.
Junior Arbria Williams placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.38.
Kent State's men also saw success from its freshmen, including Trevor Detillion, who won the discus with a heave of 52.71 meters. Junior Douglas Moorer, Jr. was third at 52.02 meters.
Freshman Ryan Palm won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:28.2, his first career victory.
Junior Samory Fraga was second in the long jump at 6.99 meters.
Another runner-up finish in the jumps came from junior Craig Stevens, Jr. was second in the triple jump at 14.46 meters. Freshman Anthony Milliner was just behind him in third going 14.09 meters. Junior Brad Jones was third in the high jump, clearing 2.05 meters.
Freshman Korie Davis II was fourth in the 300-meter dash, crossing the line at 34.71.
Junior Evan Lesnick was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 4.78 meters.
Freshman Jonny Lukins was fifth of 17 competitors in the 800-meter run clocking in at 1:57.06.
The Golden Flashes return to action next week at the Tennessee Relays April 12-14 in Knoxville.
