
No. 29 Men’s Golf Holds Third After 36 Holes in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The No. 29 Kent State men's golf team finished the second day at the NCAA Kissimmee Regional in third place at 16-under par 560 on Tuesday.
The Golden Flashes mirrored its first-round performance in round two on the par 72 course, shooting an 8-under par score of 280. All five players finished round two at par or better to keep the Flashes in contention heading into round three. Kent State needs to finish three rounds of golf in the top-5 spot to qualify for the NCAA National Championship. Currently, the Flashes have a five-stroke on fifth-place No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 17 North Carolina, and Colorado State. No. 8 Florida leads the field at 25-under par, while Central Florida is second at 20-under.
Ian Holt had another well-played round of golf and finished the day at 3-under 69. The senior carded 11 straight holes par or better before his only bogey on the 12th hole, ending his final six holes with four pars and two birdies. Holt jumped a spot on the leaderboard and sits in a tie for fourth at 7-under 136.
Three-straight birdies on No. 1,2, and 3 led to a dominant Tuesday for Gisli Sveinbergsson who led the Flashes second-round scoring at 4-under 68. Sveinbergsson almost did it again on the back on with back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15, followed by par and birdie on the 17th hole that totaled his day with six birdies. The junior climbed 14 spots up the leaderboard and sits tied for sixth at 5-under 139. Also tied for sixth at 5-under is Chase Johnson, who carded an even-par score for the day. Johnson went 15 holes par or better with three birdies.
Josh Gilkison ended round two in a tie for 46th at 2-over par 146. After shooting a 2-over par Monday, the freshman improved in round two with an even-par score. Gilkison shot three birdies and eagled on the 17th hole.
Rounding out the lineup is Bjarki Petursson in 64th at 6-over 150. After shooting a 7-over opening round score, Petersson drastically improved in the second round after carding a 1-under par 71.
Kent State looks to seal its spot at the NCAA National Championship Wednesday by maintaining its place in the top-5. The Flashes will tee off tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. for a shotgun start. For live results, follow the team on golfstat.com.
