Regular Season Ends With 36 Wins
Flashes will start post-season play Thursday in Avon
OXFORD, OHIO – The Golden Flashes fell in the rubber match of a three-game series Saturday afternoon to a Miami team desperate to claim the final tournament bye.
The game – which meant little to KSU beside bragging rights and the chance at 40 wins – flipped in the fifth when MU scored four runs after two men were out. At one point, Kent State led 2-0 after a run scored on a passed ball and another on a Michael Turner sacrifice fly. But the RedHawks rallied in the middle innings and starter Gus Graham handcuffed the Flashes' bats the rest of the way.
KSU will open the 2018 post-season on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 at Sprenger Stadium in Avon. The Flashes do not have a definite feel on their first round opponent thanks to the new tournament format. The opportunity for re-bracketing exists pending the results of Wednesday's first round games.
KSU ends the regular season with an overall mark of 36-16 and managed to win the league with a 19-8 record, two games better than MU.
