
No. 16 Women’s Golf to Face Alabama in National Quarterfinals

STILLWATER, Okla.- Stroke play came to a nail-biting ending for the No. 16 Kent State women's golf team, but the Flashes secured the seventh seed in match play and will take on No. 1 Alabama in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
The Golden Flashes finishes 72 holes of stroke play at 32-over par 1184, with their best round of golf today at 5-over par 293. The Flashes avoided dropping into a three-way tie for eighth between Arizona and Baylor by the counting scores parring their final hole. Arizona advanced after a two hole team playoff.
Kent State will tee off at 7 a.m., Tuesday in the quarterfinals against No.1 Alabama, who was seeded No. 2. The winner will play the advancing team between No. 6 USC vs. No. 4 Duke.
It Marks the second-straight year Kent State has finished in the top-8 and has advanced to the quarterfinals. The Flashes fell to Northwestern in the quarterfinals last season, 3-2.
The top eight teams that advanced to match play were UCLA (1161), Alabama (1161), Southern California (1168), Northwestern (1173), Stanford (1180), Duke (1182), Kent State (1184) and Arizona (1185). Arizona defeated Baylor in a playoff to garner the No. 1 slot.
In match play, No. 1 seed UCLA will face No. 8 seed Arizona; No. 2 seed Alabama will take on No. 7 seed Kent State; No. 3 seed Southern California vs. No. 6 seed Duke and No. 4 seed Northwestern against No. 5 Stanford.
Pimnipa Panthong turned in a team-best 4-under par 68. Panthong went 17 holes par or better with five birdies total. On the front nine, Panthong was flawless with birdies on No. 12, 16, and the par-5 18 hole. On the back nine, Panthong's only bogey of the day was on No. 5, but the sophomore finished the remaining four holes with straight pars. Panthong finished the tournament at 1-over par 289 tied for 13th.
Chloe Salort finished the tournament in a tie for 50th at 12-over par 300. She carded a 3-over par 75 score to close our stroke play with two birdies on the day. In a tie for 52nd, Kory Nielsen finished the tournament at 13-over 301. In the final round of stroke play, Nielsen carded a 3-over par 75 score that mirrored her first two rounds. Nielsen went 15 holes for par or less with one birdie on the day.
Michaela Finn finished the day at 4-over par 76 and was 55th in the tournament at 14-over 302. Finn birdied on No. 15 and had four-straight pars her last four holes. Rounding out the lineup was Karoline Stormo who went 3-over 75 for the final round. Stormo birdied three times in the round on holes three, nine, and 12. She finishes in a tie for 79th at 29-over 317 for the tournament.
