
Reese Qualifies for NCAA Championships in 100m, Advances in 200m

TAMPA, Fla. – Riak Reese punched his ticket to the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to lead six Kent State athletes in action Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
Racing on the biggest stage to this point of his collegiate career, Reese delivered the top-12 performance in the men's 100-meter dash necessary to qualify for the national meet. He clocked a 10.20 to finish fifth in the fastest quarterfinals heat and 10th overall.
The day was not finished, however, for the speedster from Gahanna, Ohio. Only about 90 minutes later, Reese ran a personal-best 20.39 in the quarterfinals of the men's 200-meter dash. He will compete in the third heat of the event quarterfinals on Saturday, which is slated to start at 2:05 p.m. The top-3 runners from each heat plus the next best three times among remaining competitors will advances to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Trevor Detillion finished 20th in the men's discus throw with a top mark of 171-10".
In the women's pole vault, Maria Horrigan and Sam Tollerud tied for 21st with a top height of 12'-10.75". Ally Thompson cleared 12'-4.25" to place 42nd.
Nicole Yeargin's outstanding first season at the NCAA Division I level came to an end as she clocked a 23.62 in the first round of the women's 200-meter dash.
In addition to Reese, six Kent State athletes are scheduled to compete on Saturday's final day of competition. Gabrielle Figueroa will get the action started at 8:45 a.m. in the women's hammer throw. Brad Jones will go in the men's high jump at 2 p.m. Anthony Milliner and Craig Stevens, Jr. are slated for the men's triple jump at 3:30 p.m. David Paliscak and Walter Petzel will conclude the meet for the Flashes in the men's shot put at 5:30 p.m.
