
Tollerud Earns Second CoSIDA Academic All-District® Award

KENT, Ohio – Kent State senior Sam Tollerud has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team for District 5, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Tuesday (May 29) afternoon.
An exercise science major who graduated with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average, Tollerud earned Academic All-District® distinction for the second straight year and will advance to the national ballot.
Tollerud won her second consecutive Mid-American Conference indoor pole vault title in February and finished runner-up at the outdoor conference meet for the second year in a row earlier this month. She ranked 27th nationally (13'-9") during the indoor season and 32nd (13'-8.5") during the outdoor season. Tollerud earned four individual titles throughout her senior year and placed in the top-3 in 12 of 17 meets.
The top pole vaulter in Kent State history, Tollerud owns the indoor (13'-9.25") and outdoor (13'-10") program records. She qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in each of her four seasons and concluded her career as a four-time All-MAC honoree.
Tollerud has been recognized for her successes as a student-athlete throughout her career as a Golden Flash. She is a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree, five-time MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, six-time Academic All-MAC honoree and two-time MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week selection.
At the 35th annual Judith K. Devine Athletic Academic Honors Banquet and Starner Distinguished Speaker Series at the beginning of May, Tollerud was announced as a recipient of the MAC Medal of Excellence, which is presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete who showed evidence of academic success, athletic excellence, leadership and service.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. In order to be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve and maintain at least a 3.30 grade point average.
