KSU pounds out 12-0 win over BG; takes commanding MAC lead

KENT, OHIO – The Golden Flashes broke open a tight game and rolled to another convincing win over Bowling Green, 12-0 on Saturday afternoon at Schoonover Stadium.

The win, along with losses by the league's second and third place teams, trims Kent State's magic number to clinch the regular season title to five. KSU now has a three game lead in the conference standings. It also moved Kent State a season-high 18 games above the .500 mark. The Golden Flashes have not allowed a run in the series.

The game started as a good pitching match-up between Jared Skolnicki and BG's Ben Buetel. The two traded zeros until the fourth when Tim DalPorto hit his third home run of the home stand – a two-run shot to left. It became 5-0 in the sixth on another DalPorto RBI, this time on a sacrifice fly. Michael Turner then belted his first collegiate home run to right with two outs.

A second straight three-run inning transpired for the Flashes in the seventh, giving the good guys a commanding 8-0 lead. After an error, KSU got RBIs from Pavin Parks, Nick Elsen and another from Turner. Meanwhile, on the mound, Skolnicki gave way to Connor Wollersheim in the sixth and the two dazzled all afternoon to keep the Flashes in control.

In the eighth, Nick Elsen clubbed a grand slam down the left field line to erase all doubt. It was KSU's fifth slam of the season – all by different players. Austin Havekost worked an uneventful ninth to finish it off.

The series with the Falcons concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
