Bats and Arms Shine in Senior Day Sweep over Akron

KENT, Ohio – On Senior Day at the Diamond at Dix, the Kent State softball team (28-20, 14-8 MAC) swept a doubleheader over the Akron Zips (3-43-1, 2-21 MAC), 4-0, and, 10-0, on Saturday afternoon. Pitcher Madi Huck pitched tremendously in the first game and lost her no-hit bit with two outs in the seventh innings. The Golden Flashes recognized their season class of Emily Dobbin, Allie Luther, Vanessa Scoarste, Kylee Southers and Holly Speers, and they will end their careers as the winningest class in school history (139 wins) with at least three games left in the season. Game 1: Kent State 4, Akron 0
Pitcher Madi Huck was sensational and overpowered the Zips bats all game and only allowed two hits in the seventh inning. She finished the game allowing one walk, while striking out seven.
It was a scoreless game in the fourth until Carlee Selle broke open the scoring with an RBI single up the middle that drove in Maria Cegledy. Kaitlyn Miller followed with an RBI groundout to put the Flashes up by two.
In the sixth, Selle struck again with a two-run dinger to centerfield, her third of the season, to widen the margin to four runs.
Selle finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Kennadie Goth was 2-for-4 with two singles.
Game 2: Kent State 10, Akron 0 (5 innings)
The Golden Flashes banged out 12 hits in the run rule victory and put up a five spot in the first. It was highlighted by seniors Holly Speers and Allie Luther each launched two-run home runs in the frame. Speers hit her 16th of the season and Luther her 8th, both the highest total in a season for their careers.
Bailey Brownfield singled down the left field line in the second to give KSU a six-run lead.
Scoarste and Dobbin both recorded RBIs in the third. Allie Luther triple to right, and finished the game a double shy of the cycle, and Carlee Selle doubled to right for her fourth RBI of the day.
Brenna Brownfield threw her first career complete game shutout firing five innings and allowing just three hits.
Up Next
 The Golden Flashes round out their regular season tomorrow against the Zips at 12 p.m. Kent State it still waiting to find out its seed at the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament, but is guaranteed a three or four seed.
