
No.16 Women’s Golf to Compete in NCAA Regionals

KENT, Ohio- The No. 16 Kent State women's golf team looks to qualify for the NCAA National Championship at the regional championship, hosted by Stanford, at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Calif. May 7-9.
The Golden Flashes are the fourth seed in the 18 team field. The goal for Kent State is to finish among the top six teams in the field to earn a spot at nationals. The three-round tournament begins Monday at 8 a.m., with the Flashes teeing off at 8:56 a.m. on hole one.
Kent State is joined in San Francisco, in order of seeding, by: No. 1 UCLA, No. 5 Stanford, No. 9 South Carolina, No. 17 Oklahoma State, Colorado, Louisville, North Carolina State, Mississippi, Cal, San Diego State, Pepperdine, Oregon, Long Beach State, Grand Canyon, Princeton, and Fairleigh Dickinson. Individuals joining these teams are Alivia Brown (Washington State), Samantha Hutchinson (UC Davis), Ingrid Gutierrez (New Mexico), Abegail Arevalo (San Jose State), Darian Zachek (New Mexico), and Christine Danielsson of UC Davis.
The Flashes enter the regional tournament in the midst of a dominating regular season campaign. Kent State is on pace to pass last season's scoring average at 290.63, 3.96-over par. The Flashes hold a finishing percentage of 85.5 percent and have recorded 11 rounds of par or less. The team's first-round average scoring of 72.68 is ranked fourth in the nation and par-3 scoring of 3.14 is 11th in the nation stats.
The squad is led by the team's ace Pimnipa Panthong. The sophomore is ranked 30th in the country and is the fourth-highest ranked golfer in the field. However, the lineup features two All-MAC First teamers who are nationally ranked. Michaela Finn ranks 88th and Karoline Stormo ranks 93rd. All three including Chloe Salort, were named to the All-Tournament team. Rounding out the lineup will be Kory Nielsen, who had a top-10 finish at the MAC Championship that helped the team capture its 20th straight title.
