
No. 16 Women’s Golf Charges Into First Place at Regionals

San Francisco, Calif.- The No. 16 Kent State women's golf team will enter the final round of the NCAA Regionals in contention for a spot in the NCAA Championship, having moved into a tie for first place in round two this afternoon.
The Golden Flashes moved up into the first-place spot after trailing the leader, UCLA, by four-strokes. It was a day full of birdies as the team totaled 12 for the second round, which moved Kent State into a tie for first with Stanford at 2-under 574. The Flashes carded a second round score of 290 (+2), leading the No. 1 ranked UCLA.
After tomorrow's final round, the top six teams in the field will qualify for the NCAA National Championship. If there is a tie for sixth, the teams will play in a playoff round to determine who advances. The top three remaining individuals will also qualify for Nationals.
Karoline Stormo leads the squad and sits in a tie for 12th at 1-under par 143. Stormo carded an even-par score for her second round. After starting her round with a bogey on the first hole, Stormo went 15 holes of par or less, with three birdies.
Pimnipa Panthong and Michaela Finn are both tied for 19th at even-par 144. Panthong started her round with a bogey on the first hole but quickly recovered after firing back-to-back birdies on the second and third hole. The Sophomore finished the day with a 73 (+1) score. Finn was critical to Kent State's march up the standings posting the only under-par score on the team for the second round. Finn improved from her first round score of 73 and carded a 1-under 71 for today's round. Finn went 17 holes of par or less with two birdies.
Kory Nielsen shot 2-over par 74 during the second round and sits in a tie for 29th at 2-over par 146. Chloe Salort rounds out the lineup after carding a 3-over par 77 score. After two rounds of play, Salort sits tied for 38th at 3-over 147.
