Kent State recently announced the hiring of J Locklier as associate athletic director, executive director of athletics advancement. Locklier comes to the Golden Flashes from the University of Cincinnati, where he served as assistant athletic director for leadership gifts. He officially begins his duties on Monday, June 4.
"We're very excited to add J to our senior leadership team," said Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen. "As the athletic department embarks on very ambitious fundraising goals, including a complete renovation of the M.A.C. Center, J brings significant experience from multiple institutions with a heavy concentration on capital improvement projects. I'm confident our donors and fans will enjoy meeting J and his wife, Olivia."
After joining Cincinnati in 2014, Locklier managed a leadership gift team working to raise funds for capital projects, scholarship endowments and program enhancement. He focused on raising funds for Nippert Stadium renovation and expansion and premium seating. He also led renovations to Fifth Third Arena and Cincinnati's men's basketball locker room.
Prior to Cincinnati, Locklier was a major gift officer at Butler University, raising funds for athletic scholarship, program enhancement, and a $36 million renovation of Hinkle Fieldhouse.
No stranger to the Mid-American Conference, Locklier was a basketball student-athlete at Miami and later Washington State. He was a member of Miami's MAC championship team in 1999 that made a Sweet 16 run at the NCAA Tournament.
At Washington State, Locklier was named 2001 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year and a 2002 Pac-10 All-Academic First Team selection. He played three seasons of professional basketball, before his current career in athletic development.
In 2005, Locklier joined James Madison, serving as associate director of the Duke Club, where his team was the first to surpass $1 million in unrestricted support. Two years later, he served as senior director of development for West Virginia's Mountaineer Athletic Club. Working primarily with major gifts, his team raised over $16 million for football enhancements at Milan Puskar Stadium and over $20 million for a basketball practice facility.
Locklier earned a B.A. in business management from Washington State in 2001 and a M.Ed. in higher education/athletic administration in 2005. In 2014, Locklier completed an MBA in leadership from Butler.
Kent State's advancement team also had another recent change. Greg Moon now serves as director of The Golden Flashes Club after spending the previous year as assistant director.
