
Kent State in Top 25 of Helper Helper Leaderboard

KENT, Ohio- This year Kent State University student-athletes finished 24th nationally in the 2018 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition.
NCAA Team Works, which coordinates community service efforts at NCAA championships, and Helper Helper, a volunteer management, and tracking platform, launched the community service competition to recognize student-athletes who give back to their communities. The competition ran from January through March with the winning schools' victories being decided based on the number of service hours completed and participation of student-athletes.
Student-athletes at Kent State earned 24th out of the 100 Division I institutions that competed in the competition. The Golden Flashes completed 3,500 hours of community service with six teams finishing in the top-10 of their respective sport. Football led the way ranking ninth with 683 total hours serving at the Multi-County Juvenile Attention System and Haven of Rest.
Men's Golf placed second in the golf category with 170 service hours working with the Ben Curtis Foundation and United Way Charities. The Volleyball team ranked third in their sport working with the 2nd and 7 Foundation, Campus Kitchen, and Habitat for Humanity for a total of 450 hours.
Women's Golf finished fifth completing 151 community service hours through Clean up Kent, The Salvation Army, and United Way Charities.
The gymnastics team completes 200 total hours finishing ninth in the competition and the wrestling team completed 53 hours for seventh place.
This is the fourth annual NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition award, with all Divisions I, II and III participating schools combining for 94,683 hours of community service in 3,300 opportunities.
