
Slew of Flashes Named Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Kent State softball program had 11 student-athletes earn Academic All-MAC honors, as announced by the conference office Monday (June 4).
The Golden Flashes 11 honorees is tied for the most in the conference along with Eastern Michigan. Seniors Emily Dobbin, Allie Luther and Vanessa Scoarste are receiving recognition for the third time.
Sophomore Maria Cegledy was honored for the first time in her career and was previously recognized for her performance on the field and in the classroom, by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as an Academic All-District™ First Team selection. Also receiving academic recognition is Bailey Brownfield, who was a member of the All-MAC First Team and NFCA All-Mideast Region Second Team.
During the spring semester, the Golden Flashes recorded an outstanding 3.539 team GPA. Six student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.00 and 18 additional student-athletes earned a 3.400 or better.
The Academic All-MAC Team honors student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
