
Kent State Places Three on Men’s Golf Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio- Three Kent State men's golf student-athletes earned Men's Golf Academic All-MAC honors, as the Mid-American Conference recognized a total of 28 student-athletes for their successes in the classroom and in competition on Friday.
Senior 2018 MAC Golfer of the year Ian Holt was honored for holding a 3.212 GPA as a business management major. In his last year at Kent, Holt finished the season ranked 32nd in the nation with two tournament wins (The Gopher Invitational and Mid-American Conference Championship). A 2018 All-MAC First Teamer, his scoring average of 71.23 is the second-best mark of all-time at Kent State. He also recorded two rounds of 66 this season, adding another stat to the record books to end his career.
Senior Chase Johnson was honored for his 3.417 GPA in the communications studies program. A 2018 All-Mac First teamer, Johnson finished his career at Kent State ranked 118th in the nation. Johnson finished the season with six top-10 finishes including a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Regionals. On the year, his scoring average was 72.51 with eight rounds in the 60's.
Junior Bjarki Petursson was honored with his 3.292 GPA as a communications major. Also a 2018 All-MAC First Teamer, Petursson ended the season with a 72.72 scoring average. His best finish this season was in the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championship as runner-up medalist.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
