Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario) has notched another first for Kent State soccer, becoming the first All-American in program history. The National Soccer Coaches Association announced Friday, Dec. 2, its list of All-America teams, of which, Hellstrom was named All-America Second Team. 2016 NSCAA Division I Women's All-America Teams Hellstrom, who led the Mid-American Conference in assists (10) and points (38), while ranking second in goals scored (14), notched a point in 14 of 19 games played this season and had six matches with at least three points. This season, Hellstrom ranked seventh in the nation in points per game (2.0), 11th in assists per game (0.53) and 14th in goals per game (0.74). Hellstrom's All-America honors caps-off an illustrious career in which she was a two-time NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First Team selection, a two-time MAC Offensive Player of the Year, a three-time first team All-MAC selection and MAC Freshman of the Year. Hellstrom is Kent State's all-time leader in 12 different career and single-season categories, including career goals (37), assists (33), points (107) and game-winning goals (17). Among active Division I players, Hellstrom is one of only 13 players with 30 career goals and 20 career assists and ranks fifth in assists per game with (0.45).  |

Kent State senior Nick Cuthbert (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) was among three linebackers selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team Thursday.  A graduate student, Cuthbert carried a 3.97 grade point average, receiving just one B in his 3.5-year undergraduate career. The former walk-on went out with a bang, recording 56 tackles in his final three games (18.7 tpg).  Now a two-time Academic All-America selection, Cuthbert ranks ninth in MAC with 98 tackles.  He finished second on the team in both solo tackles (52) and tackles for loss (8.5). The Golden Flashes are among elite company with at least one Academic All-America selection in four consecutive years and a first team choice in three straight years. On Wednesday, Cuthbert was named Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week for his Senior Day performance against Northern Illinois.  In the final game of his college career, he made 19 tackles, helping hold the Huskies to 3.0 yards per carry.  More on Cuthbert's selection to the Academic All-American Team can be found on the KentStateSports.com Football Page. |
