Kilgore to Compete in Olympic Trials Saturday

Thirteen months after becoming Kent State's first NCAA wrestling champion, Kent State's Dustin Kilgore (Berea, Ohio) will be back in the national spotlight Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Iowa City.

Because Kilgore's 96 kg weight class features a defending medalist (Jake Varner) from the 2011 World Championships, a championship on Saturday would not yet seal a spot in London.  If Kilgore wins Saturday's Challenge Tournament and defeats Varner in a best-of-three series, he would still need to place higher than Varner at an international tournament to be determined.

A live video stream of all matches can be seen NBCOlympics.com, beginning Saturday at 10 a.m.  Matches can also be seen on the NBC Sports Network (tape delay) Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and Monday 3-6 p.m.

In June of 2011, Kilgore placed third at the U.S. World Team Trials, allowing him to take an Olympic redshirt and and spend most of his at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.  Since then, he has won three tournament titles, most recently going 4-0 at the Pan-American Championships on Feb. 26.
