Flashes to Open MAC Play vs. Ohio

• The Kent State University women's basketball team will open the 2007 portion of its schedule and Mid-American Conference play Wednesday, Jan. 3 against East Division rival Ohio University at the M.A.C. Center, where the Golden Flashes have won 22 of their last 23 home games.
• With just seven healthy players, the Golden Flashes (4-7) dropped a pair of games at the Wells Fargo New Year's Classic this past weekend (Dec. 29-30) hosted by Texas-San Antonio.
• Freshman guard Jamilah Humes was named to the Wells Fargo All-Classic Team after racking up 34 points in two games. Humes scored a career-high 17 points vs. Kentucky and matched that feat the very next day vs. Texas-San Antonio.
• Ohio (7-5) began the season 5-0, but has since dropped five of its last seven games. The Bobcats fell to Florida Atlantic 58-56 Satuday on a buzzer-beating jump shot from FAU's Shuteamia Brayboy in the championship game of the FAU Invitational.
• The Golden Flashes have won the last four meetings with the Bobcats and lead the all-time series 41-17. KSU earned a 73-66 overtime win in the most recent meeting on Feb. 15 last season at the M.A.C. Center.

SERIES HISTORY
Kent State has won each of the last four meetings with Ohio including a 2005-06 season series sweep. The Golden Flashes have also won the last 14 meetings with the Bobcats at the M.A.C. Center. KSU leads the all-time series 41-17 which dates back to 1976. Ohio's 56-50 win over the Flashes in January of 2005 has been its only victory in the last 24 meetings.
In their most recent matchup, (Feb. 15, 2006) the Golden Flashes needed overtime to come away with a 73-66 win over Ohio at the M.A.C. Center. La'kia Stewart and Sarah Burgess scored 11 and 10 points respectively and Domenica Silva led the Bobcats with 20.
BENCH PRODUCTION
The KSU bench has outscored the opponents' reserves in 10 of 11 games, holding a 94-point edge on opponent bench scoring for the year.
HOME SWEET HOME
With a victory over St. Francis (Pa.), the Golden Flashes improved 34-3 (.919) at the M.A.C. Center since the start of the 2003-04 season. KSU, 2-0 at home this season, finished 11-1 at the M.A.C. Center last year, marking the fourth straight season it had won at least 10 games at home. Over the previous 12 seasons, Kent State is an impressive 116-13 (.899) at home. During a stretch from 1997-01, the Golden Flashes won 43 straight games inside the M.A.C. Center. The Golden Flashes have not lost to a non-conference opponent in the M.A.C. Center since falling to Wisconsin-Green Bay on Nov. 22, 2004.
SCOUTING OHIO
The Bobcats (7-5) returned three starters from a team that tied for third in the MAC East last season. Ohio is holding opponents to a .373 field goal percentage, which currently ties for the top spot in the MAC. The Bobcats lead the MAC in defensive rebounds with 29.42 per game. Offensively, the Cats rank 48th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage at .358.
Junior Lauren Kohn leads Ohio with 23 triples on the year and is sixth in the MAC in scoring with 15.5 points per game. Sophomore Rachel Frederick is just behind Kohn in scoring at 14.7 ppg. Frederick is 46-of-55 from the free throw line, which ranks third in the MAC.

Injuries Hampering Flashes
Sophomore guard Rachel Bennett suffered a preseason knee injury that will keep her out of action for the entire 2006-07 season.
Sophomore center Samantha Scull has missed the last six games with a foot injury and senior guard Sarah Burgess has sat out the past three games with a knee injury. Mallorie Griffith also did not see action at Texas-San Antonio after suffering a concussion vs. Kentucky.
