Kent State's Jones Tabbed as MAC East Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Taisja Jones, a senior forward on the Kent State women's basketball team, was named Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 6. It marked the second such honor for Jones this season.
Jones averaged 26.5 ppg on the week, including a total of 33 points at the free throw line. Against Eastern Michigan Feb. 2, Jones set a team record for free throw attempts in a game (21) while converting 18 on her way to a team-high 24 points. She also had nine rebounds in the game, just missing a double-double. Then, against Western Michigan, Jones was nearly perfect, going 15-of-16 at the free throw line on her way to a game-best 29 points. Against the Broncos, Jones added five steals and two blocked shots, also game-highs.
On the season, Jones is averaging 16.8 points per game, an average that jumps to 18.8 ppg in MAC games. She also leads the team in rebounds per game (5.6) and steals per game (2.5).
Amongst her MAC counterparts, Jones is fifth in scoring, eighth in free throw percentage (.790) and 12th in field goal percentage (.440). Jones trails only Bowling Green's Lauren Prochaska in free throws made this season.
Kent State is back in action Saturday, Feb. 12 at Central Michigan for a 4 p.m. contest.
