Rachel Stypinski Named All-MAC First Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State freshman gymnast Rachel Stypinski (Boyertown, Pa.) was named to the 2015 All-Mid-American Conference First Team as announced Wednesday, March 18th by the league's office.Â
Rachel Stypinski has been named the MAC gymnastics specialist of the week a record six times this season, Jan. 27, Feb. 1, Feb. 17, March 3, March 10 and March 17. She has not lost a balance beam title this season, going 6-for-6 at every MAC meet this season with only one tie, scoring a career-high 9.900 at four different meets.Â
Stypinski also has scored impressively on the floor exercise all season. Her highest score was a 9.950, which she received twice against Central Michigan and Ball State.
Stypinski is the first freshman at Kent State since 2008 to be named to the All-MAC First Team, when Christina Lenny was named to the list. She joins an elite group of freshman on the first team from Kent State: Christina Lenny (2008), Phylicia Robertson (2005), Shannon Gallagher (1994), Michelle Naessig (1994), Rachel Coury (1994), Shelly Stambaugh (1993), Amy Woomer (1992), Amy Musgrove (1990), Alicia Kovalick (1986), Kathy Collett (1983) and Dawn Roberts (1983).Â
The Golden Flashes head into the MAC Championships this weekend (March 21) here at the Kent State Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center at 2 p.m. Kent State ended the regular season with an overall record of 6-7 and 2-4 in the MAC.Â
