EUGENE, Ore. - Kent State had four athletes, three current and one former, compete at the USATF Outdoor and Junior Outdoor Championships this past weekend, June 25th-28th in Eugene, Oregon at Hayward Field.
Thursday saw Matthias Tayala and Reggie Jagers compete as Tayala took fifth in the hammer and Jagers 13th in the discus.
Matthias Tayala took fifth overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 71.94m (236' 0") on his fifth throw of the night. He recorded throws of 69.12m (226' 9") on his second attempt on the night, 69.61m (228' 4") on his thrid throw and his best throw 71.94m on his fifth.
Reggie Jagers finished in 13th in the discus with a best mark of 58.90m (193' 3"). Jagers had throws of 58.90m, 56.81m (186' 4") and 57.68m (189' 3").
Kibwe Johnson took first in the hammer with a best throw of 76.95m (252' 5"), as Jared Schuurmans won the discus at 64.64m (212' 1").
Kent State will see two current athletes, William Barnes and Sam Tollerud, compete on Saturday, June 27th as the Golden Flashes alum Kim Hamilton will throw the javelin Friday, June 26th at 7pm.
Kim Hamilton took fourth in the javelin on Friday, June 26th with a best mark of 59.05m (193' 8").
William Barnes competed in the 110m hurdles on Saturday, June 27th and finished in 19th place in the preliminaries with a time of 13.83.
Sam Tollerud competed in the pole vault on Saturday, June 27th and recorded no height in the junior championships.
Hamilton and Tayala will both compete for the USA at one of the competitions later this summer.

Athletes are looking to earn spots on the 2015 IAAF World Championships team set for August 22-30 in Beijing, China, as well as on the Pan Am Games, Thorpe Cup, Pan Am Juniors and NACAC Championships teams.
