CLEVELAND, OHIO – Former Kent State women's soccer player Stephanie Haugh '15 and Dustin Page from the Northern Illinois men's soccer team have been selected to receive the 2015 Bob James Memorial Award by the Mid-American Conference Faculty Athletics Representatives as announced by the league office today.
In its 27th year, the Bob James Memorial Award recognizes one female and one male student-athlete who have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.50 and have displayed good character, leadership and citizenship. The student-athletes are nominated during the year in which they complete their final season of eligibility. The $5,000 post-graduate scholarship is awarded in honor Bob James, the second commissioner in Mid-American Conference history (1964-71).
Haugh graduated from Kent State in May of 2015 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree as a double major in Psychology, as well as Criminology and Justice Studies with a concentration in Justice and Human Relations. She was on the Dean's List all eight semesters and the President's List on multiple occasions and finished graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 3.967 GPA. Haugh was a three-time Academic All-MAC selection (2012, 2013, 2014) and earned the MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award in 2013 and 2014. She was also a three-time Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection (2012, 2013, 2014).
As a forward on the Kent State soccer team, Haugh was a four-year letter winner (2011-14) and competed in all 80 contests (78 starts) during her collegiate career. She was chosen to the MAC All-Freshman Team in 2011 after recording six goals (including three game-winners) in her first season with the Golden Flashes. As a sophomore, Haugh made Second-Team All-MAC after finishing with 23 points on six goals and a team-high 11 assists, which ranked 13th in all of NCAA Division I. In her third season with Kent State, Haugh earned Third-team recognition on the OSCA All-Academic Team and led the team with six assists to go along with three goals. Haugh then wrapped up her senior year by finishing tied for first on the team in assists (6), while finishing second in points (14) and goals (4).
Off the pitch, Haugh spent two years in the Kent State labs taking part in both data entry and proctoring responsibilities while gaining knowledge on the importance of MMPI, MMPI-2, court evaluation and other clinical assessment topics. A semester of her time was also used to conduct research on schizophrenia.
A native of Richmond, Hill, Ontario, Haugh will pursue a General Psychology Master's Degree from Western Carolina University beginning Fall 2015.
The MAC's other Bob James Memorial Award recipient Dustin 'Dusty' Page, who graduated from Northern Illinois in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree after majoring in Finance. He ended his academic career with a perfect 4.00 GPA and Summa Cum Laude honors. Page made the Dean's List in all eight of his semesters as well as being a member of the President's List on multiple occasions. Outside of the classroom and the pitch, Page also made his mark in collegiate affairs as well as in the community. He was highly involved in Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during his time at Northern Illinois as Page was the Huskies SAAC President in 2014-15. During that same time, Page was the Vice Chair of the NCAA Student Academic Advisory Committee and was integral part in the reform that gave students a voting member on the NCAA Board of Directors for the first time. Page also spent time working as a volunteer. From 2011-13, he taught youth soccer with Northern Illinois FC and assisted with local elementary school fun fairs. Page also participated in the Athletic Department Canned Food Drive and the Adopt-a-Family Christmas Gift Drive. He also collected over $1,000 for Samaritan's Feet with NCAA SAAC promoting an NCAA "Jeans Day".
As a defenseman for the Northern Illinois soccer team, Page was a four-year letter winner (2011-2014) and competed in 49 career matches with 43 starts. During his freshman campaign, Page saw action in four tilts and helped his Huskies squad to a MAC Championship Title and NCAA Tournament birth. In his second season with NIU, Page posted 10 starts in 11 appearances while logging 10 shots. As a junior, Page played in all 17 contests with 16 starts and recorded his first goal in a 3-0 victory over Eastern Illinois on Oct. 22. During his final season with Northern Illinois, Page was chosen as the Team Captain along with being named Preseason All-MAC First Team by College Sports Madness. He started in all 17 matches for the Huskies, tallying one goal and one assist. For Page's efforts during his senior campaign, he was voted "Mr. Victor E.
