
Men's Golf in ninth place after opening two rounds at Royal Oaks Intercollegiate

DALLAS – Rounds of 283 and 284 during Monday's first day of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate put Kent State in ninth place at 1-under par heading into the final round at the 7,068-yard, par-71 Royal Oaks Country Club.
"We were not really sharp today," said Kent State head coach Herb Page. "We made some small mistakes that are correctable. We will need a great round tomorrow."
Tournament host Baylor pulled out to a commanding lead at 22-under-par, nine clear of second-place Arkansas. At No. 8 in the nation, Baylor is the top-ranked team in the event, followed by Kent State at 14 and Arkansas at 17.
Liberty (8-under), Minnesota (7-under), New Mexico (7-under), Pepperdine (3-under), UTSA (3-under), and Michigan (3-under) also finished the first two rounds in red numbers.
Ian Holt shot rounds of 69 and 70 to lead Kent State. At 3-under par, he will begin Tuesday's final round in a seven-way tie for 11th place. Fellow Golden Flashes Bjarki Peteruson (70-70–140) in 18th place and Chase Johnson (71-70–141) in 25th place also finished day one under par at two-under and one-under, respectively.
Kent State's Gisli Sveinbergsson was in 53rd place after rounds of 73-74 while Chris Doody was in 73rd after shooting 79-78.
The Flashes' fivesome will tee off at 8:30 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, and fans can follow the scoring at golfstat.com.
