Scali Deals Perfect Game in Regular Season Finale

KENT, Ohio – Redshirt freshman Andrea Scali threw Kent State's (25-22, 11-5 MAC) first perfect game since 2017 in the first game of a doubleheader against Bowling Green (22-29, 7-14 MAC) at the Diamond at Dix on Saturday afternoon. She fired her third overall no-hitter of the season in the 4-0 triumph and also struck out a career-high 14. Senior Bailey Brownfield notched her 200th career hit and became just the fourth player in school history to achieve the milestone.
The six-member senior class of Sydney Anderson, Hunter Brancifort, Bailey Brownfield, Shelby Hard and Hailey Hopkins was also recognizing for their achievements following the twinbill. Kent State fell in the second game, 2-1.
Game 1: Kent State 4, Bowling Green 0
Kent State scored a single tally in the third inning when Kaitlyn Miller stole second and drew a throw that was dropped and allowed Jen Cader to score from third. During the fifth frame, Bailey Brownfield recorded the 200th hit of her career, shooting a ball off the foot of the Bowling Green pitcher and drove home pinch runner Sabrina Kerschner from third.
Senior Hunter Brancifort doubled KSU's lead with a two-run dinger to center to cap off the scoring.
Scali (19-7) moved into ninth place for strikeouts in a season at Kent State and has accumulated 227 Ks this year and her 10 shutouts also fourth most in a single season. Brooke Parker (6-12) took the loss for Bowling Green and allowed seven hits with three earned runs.
Game 2: Bowling Green 2, Kent State 1
Bowling Green began the game scoring a run in the first inning on a two out single down the third base line and scored again in the top of the fourth on a double to take a 2-0 lead.
Kent State's bats were stymied by senior pitcher Meredith Miller and scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a triple by Brancifort.
Madi Huck (5-10) was the tough luck loser and went six innings while surrendering just two earned runs with three strikeouts. Scali worked a clean seventh inning with a strikeout. Miller (16-15) only allowed five hits and struck out six.

Kent State will the No. 2 seed at next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament and will face an opponent to be determined at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8.
